There’s nothing we could really say, by way of introducing King Britt’s Fhloston Paradigm, that could much improve upon Britt’s own elevator pitch on his Bandcamp page, so let’s just start there: “Fhloston Paradigm is a manifestation of afro-futurist ideals, based in an electronic music landscape. The purpose is to transmit the omni-versal message of divine abstractions into aural pleasing tones.” We can add a few things, however: Britt has long been one of Philadelphia’s (if not the larger electronic music world’s) master collaborators, and with this alternately spacey/sexy/peaced out framework, he’s found a whole new space to occupy while plying his trade. On the After… LP, released earlier this year, Britt is basically divining the midpoint between Sun Ra and his earlier master-of-deep-house self. Like space, it is a fine place to be, and right now, he might be the only person there. But this music indicates that company is very much welcome.
