Write Nites are a natural outgrowth of the local Philly press The Head & The Hand's ongoing mission: Not just to be a local publisher (where they've been very successful, publishing everything from novels to chapbooks in vending machines), but to also be a resource for both would-be and practicing writers. Held most often at The Art Dept. in Fishtown, the Write Nite series is "an experimental and experiential workshop series focused on generating new material."

This time around, the experiment and the experience is a simple but devilish one: 90 minutes of writing time, accompanied by the music — specifically, the sonatas — of John Cage. (There will also be a copy of Composition In Retrospect on hand for those wishing to model Cage’s "mesostics" -- lines of prose poetry linked by a central vertical acrostic.)
