Wanna feel old? The Roots Picnic began in 2008. But before you spiral down the wormhole of time, pivot with me: Look at what it (and you) have achieved since then! Year by year, the Roots Picnic — which goes off once again this June 4th and 5th at the Mann — has grown solidly, and this year’s lineup for the first time ever spans two full days.

And like any fest, there’ll be names you know, and names you don’t know. But what separates this from nearly all other big summer festivals is just how lovingly curated this thing is as its own music discovery device. Questlove and the gang have really gone the extra mile this year, and made a completely unique amalgam of hip-hop, soul, R&B and jazz that truly does feel like a one of a kind, two-day-long mixtape.

In fact, we were about to put one together but then we noticed: People all over are already doing their own. And they’re all great. So dig in, lean back, and get ready to do your googles: Even if you’re not going, you’re going to watch to check out every name on the flyer. Do attend.
