Good Motherf*cking News: Do Good Sh*t

Welcome to Good Motherfucking News, where we try to avoid the void by focusing on actual good things that are actually happening as we speak here in the independent psychological nation-state of Philadelphia. Luckily for all of us, there are many!

First, and perhaps most pertinent to recent news events, there is an effort by an outfit called Do Good Shit Philly to do something pretty ambitious: Hand write over 6,000 letters to registered voters in PA, where, I remind you, this dude is on the ballot and Shapiro is only leading him by three lousy points. Stakes is high, and DGS is looking to get out that vote. DGS Philly is “a community of civically and politically active Philadelphians [...] led by squid biologist, science communicator, and local organizer Sarah McAnulty, with support from Alex Hillman and the Indy Hall coworking community.” You had me at “squid biologist.” They’ve already written 2,000 letters. Help them do more. (Wanna write letters with DGS? Check here.)

Speaking of helping, meet BSmith, a native of North Philly who is running a summer camp for youth offering mentorship, healthy meals and a safe haven. A friendly reader nominated him as a local hero, and it’s easy and fun to see why:

BSmith has camps open all summer long. Hit up his IG for more.

Lastly, meet Philadelphia Adult League Softball, who differ from your dad’s softball team in one big and amazing way: They also do an annual service trip and this year, they’re going to Sierre Leone to facilitate a four-day USA Quickball Softball + Baseball Skills Camp for 150 young people. And in fact, it’s going on right now! Incredible.

See? Doin’ good shit. Now get out there and do a lil’ bit of your own!

So there you have it: Good people are still doing good things because WE ALL (MOST OF US) DESERVE GOOD THINGS! Have you got some good news to share? If so, send it to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com with “GOOD MOTHERFUCKING NEWS!” in the subject header — we’d love to hear about it.
