This Sunday, January 15th, as part of a program of events happening not just across America but Europe as well, Philly will play host to a #WritersResist event at the National Museum of Jewish American History, at 5th and Market Streets. This event, of course, is but one in a whole week’s worth of protest events in the week leading up to Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20th — events that, large and small, will likewise be happening all over the world. In a short time, however, #WritersResist has built up an impressive network, a broad coalition of arts and advocacy groups, that’s resulting in 75 events in 75 different places, all featuring noted writers and authors answering the poet Erin Belieu’s call late last year, in the wake of Trump’s election: "We will not give in to despair. We will come together and actively help make the world we want to live in. We are bowed, but we are not broken."

Here in Philly, local organizers/writers Alicia Askenase, Stephanie Feldman and Nathaniel Popkin have organized this event, starting at 2pm on Sunday, which will feature dozens of Philly writers of every stripe (including our own publisher and editor Joey Sweeney, among many others far more worthy of your time). We’re proud to support and do hope you can make it for this free special event. Join the event on Facebook here.
