Born in 1936 under the perhaps even more badass name of Edward Funk, Crazy Philadelphia Eddie is a legend in the tattoo world. Though not as well-known as other tattoo figures like Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins or Ed Hardy, that could be changing soon, as Olde Bar proprietor/curator/documentary filmmaker Erich Weiss is underway with his forthcoming doc, Crazy Philadelphia Eddie. According to Weiss — who also directed Hori Smoku, about the aforementioned Collins — Crazy is driven directly by interviews with its namesake, but takes a different, more thoughtful approach than your average talking-head isn't-he-a-legend piece. "When the fringes become the fabric of mass pop culture, what happens to the original outsiders," asks the pitch. "Do pirates ever really retire?"
