This Saturday, Philebrity.com and VitaminWater are proud to present The Sync Stage at the Piazza At Schmidt’s — on America’s birthday, no less! What started out as a great bill originally scheduled on June 20th (but delayed to the 4th of July due to rain) has evolved into a TOTAL BLOCKBUSTER, containing what we think is one of the greatest all-Philly bills to be put on a stage in years and years. Hyperbole? Don’t think so. Scroll down to get familiar with some of the most vital Philly artists of the last decade (and beyond).

About The Sync Stage Bands

Like we said, the bill assembled before you on Saturday, June 20th represents a grip of local artists whose music, we think at least, constitutes a great present-day soundtrack to the city of Philadelphia. Let’s get to know them, shall we?

Black Landlord

Black Landlord are so much more than the natural extension of Philly’s legendary hip-hop collective The Goats. They’re a goddamned party in a can. Frontman Maxx truly puts the “Master of Ceremonies” part back into the title of MC, with a full band (including a baaaadassss horn section) churning behind him. We’re superpsyched to have them headlining the Sync Stage.

TuPhace

TuPhace is an artist we’ve had our eyes on for a while now, who merges hip-hop and dance sensibilities, plus a certain dynamic je ne sais quoi that is 100% his own. Above, check out TuPhace’s cameo at the Disco Biscuits’ New Year’s Eve party in Times Square a few months back.

The Tough Shits

We’re not certain, but we think that The Tough Shits have played more Philebrity gigs and parties than any other band in our history, save for maybe The Capitol Years. And it’s easy to see why: If Sam Cooke and the Ramones could adopt four babies and raise them in their own images, that would be four weird but really fun babies. And they’d inevitably form a band called The Tough Shits.

The Capitol Years

Hot off comeback gigs in Philly, NYC and the UK over the last few weeks, The Capitol Years have a grip of new tunes and a fire in the soul. These guys should need no introduction, but in case they’re new to you, in short, The Capitol Years are to Philebrity what The Band was to Woodstock, NY, back in the day. They complete us.

BC Camplight

The critically acclaimed BC Camplight have garnered praise and attracted fans from here to the UK, and remain a Philly favorite in the clubs. At their most recent show, the band — led by songwriter and musical savant Brian Christinzio — blew the roof off the place with a surprise visit from a horn section and a musical tribute to Little Richard. Expect… fun. And whiskey.

The Photon Band

The Photon Band have been causing thrills and eardrum damage in Philly since 1994 — but there’s a sweeter, mellower side to the band that’ll be on display this Saturday when the group performs its legendary Alone On The Moon EP in its entirety. And we could not be more stoked: Alone On The Moon is one of our favorite Philly records ever — it’s also one of our favorite California sunset/burnout surfer records, too. Go figure.

Pink Skull

Pink Skull are a genre-bending Philly act that blends techno, Krautrock, and anything else they can get their hands on. Though frequently acknowledged as a purely electronic act, Pink Skull will be making a rare performance on the Sync Stage as a full, live band — an incarnation that’s said to be incendiary.
