NEXT FOG IS TWICE AS NICE!!!!!

febfog

This month, Foggy Notion is stoked to have not one but two great new Philly-area bands that we’re equally excited about. Drink Up Buttercup have been winning audiences over left and right with an authentic 60s psych sound that’s married to a wild stage show. Meanwhile, our friends Jotto have this sophisticated Roxy Music/Suicide thing that’s been getting them lots of attention ever since their self-titled debut EP came out a few months ago. As always, Foggy Notion is free, and we’d love to see you.

HERE’S WHAT PITCHFORK MEDIA (SOME WEBSITE) HAS TO SAY ABOUT HOME BLITZ

Like Jonathan Richman before him, Daniel DiMaggio is in love with modern girls and modern rock & roll. “Hey!” opens with DiMaggio asking a “cute girl” how her week’s going, then announcing that he’s got “the gift that keeps on giving… it’s called electric guitar!” This announcement is followed, of course, by a bitchin’ solo. Over the last couple of years, DiMaggio has released a number of excellent home-recorded garage-rock 7″s and cassettes as Home Blitz, all of which are compiled on a self-titled CD just released by Gulcher. It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the break in the middle of “Hey!” cinches it for me. Distracted by a “hot girl,” DiMaggio stops playing altogether, interrupting himself with “whooooa… I gotta get some gum. One second…” A hilariously off-beat count-in later, he’s going at full blast again, “but now I’m singing and I’m playing four whole songs in a row!” As his previous moment of distraction illustrated, though, “it ain’t easy, takes dedication, oh baby you oughta know…. it’s TOUGH.” Funny, that seamless synchronized guitar solo at the end could’ve fooled me.

Pitchfork: WE TOTALLY AGREE FOR THE FIRST TIME EVERRRRRRR!!!!!!

AND NOW A QUICK MESSAGE FROM HOME BLITZ!

FOG OF YORE: WED. OCT 17 UK SENSATION JACK PENATE!!!!!!

jack500

Jack Peñate is GOING TO BE A STAR. In the UK, he already is: At just 22, he’s graced the cover of the NME, taken the BBC by storm and rocked festival stages all summer. Peñate’s sound is like hyper soul/infectious pop/dandified white-boy swagger, and his debut album, Matinee, is just out on XL Recordings. This is one of only two public U.S. gigs he’s playing, and my God, we’re going to faint.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the first Foggy Notion party! See youse at the M Room!

But Wait, Who The Hell Are Dark Horse & The Carousels?

dark horse

We’re glad you asked. Dark Horse & The Carousels are new band from Philly that we’re really digging. They seem to pull the awesome trashy vibes from a bunch of sources at once: Part K Records, part classic garage band, part Cramps, part Suicide, aww man, it’s just all in there. When we asked them to play, they asked us what the party was about. As soon as they heard the phrase “SINISTER GARAGE,” they were like, “Oh, of course. We’re in.” Ecoutez:
