Four Words: John DeBella Tomato Fest

  • Cooper River Park 5300 North Park Drive Pennsauken Township, NJ, 08109 United States (map)

John DeBella never really recovered from what Howard Stern did to him in the 80s, doesn’t play any record you’ve never heard 1,000 times before, isn’t funny — in fact, his comedy borders on the problematic in a lot of the soundbytes we hear — and his morning show is so datedly “wacky” that it’s wild that it even still exists. But even so, we love him. We love his staying power. We love his commitment. And screw it, even more than all this, we love WMGK in all of its classic rock numerical oddity. (Sidebar: If you’re not subjecting your kids to Breakfast With The Beatles every weekend, why did you even bother procreating?)

And even more than that, we love tomatoes. Especially Jersey tomatoes — the uglier the better — and especially in August. So pack up the family, drag your friends out of bed, and take ‘em over to, um, John DeBella Tomato Fest 2017, over on the Jersey side, where there will be tomatoes and other farmstand fare, a Bloody Mary bar, the official WMGK cover band, and a dunk tank. It’s no Louie Louie Parade, but then, what is these days?
