If you’re a consumer of local tech media, the DJ Rana Ransom may be more familiar to you as Rana Fayez; her DJ hustle is just as forward-thinking, albeit admittedly skewing more towards a kind of retro-futurism. Ransom mines the golden era of club tracks, where disco bled over into electro which then bled into the beautiful mélange known as “Italo-disco.” When a lot of these tracks were minted, clubs either were or distinctly were not inclusive spaces, but in the Rana Ransom version — exemplified by her night this weekend at the gem that is Win Win Coffee — there is really just one option: “FLASHWAVE is a safe space queer-friendly dance party, no harassment will be tolerated on the dance floor or anywhere for that matter. The idea is to dance, have fun, listen to music and meet some cool people.” Those are the only rules.
