Algorithms Suggest That You, Too, Will Like Sonja Sofya

  • Boot & Saddle 1131 S. Broad Street Philadelphia, PA

Two things keep appearing in my feed lately, and as sure as there are cookies in the sky, I know that it is no accident: This guitar, designed by St. Vincent, and the release party for Sonja Sofya’s debut album this Thursday at the Boot & Saddle. What are they telling me? They’re telling me, specifically, that algorithms suggest I’m a sucker for brash, angular, female-powered pop. This is a lot better than the time I was served up an ad for, well, anything else, really. But Sofya was the quantity unknown to me — indeed, she’s pretty unknown to everyone at the time of this writing. Patterns We Know is a fantastic intro, though, ringing all kinds of bells from Florence & The Machine way back to a real ‘90s aesthetic redolent of — what? Concrete Blonde? Liz Phair? Aimee Mann? All of it, really. You’ll want it all.

With The Dove & The Wolf, and Arc Divers. Tickets here.
