Here's A Sneak Peek Of The New "Stars Of South Philly" Mural Going Up At Broad & Tasker

A little later this morning, Jane Golden of the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, Jerry Blavat (of "The Geator" and honestly, Philadelphia itself), rockabilly legend Charlie Gracey and artist Eric Okdeh will be on hand to announce the forthcoming arrival of South Philly Musicians — a new mural going up at 1532 S. Broad (that's Broad & Tasker to you and me, bub). In that mural, you'll spy the aforementioned Blavat and Gracie, augmented by some of the other artists in the great South Philly early rock 'n' roll pantheon: Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, and more. A full list and more info will be posted here shortly, and lest the photographic quality of The Geator in the image above be too, too real for you, we are honor bound to point out that the above is an early rendering. The final result should be a few months down the road, with Mural Arts planning a full program of events celebrating the frankly kinda wonderful history of South Philly music.
