Sarge And Wheels Are Out, Or: Now Is Your Time, Kane Kalas

So, the Phillies are making moves, just not the ones you thought they would: According to ESPN, both Chris Wheeler and Gary Matthews are leaving the broadcast booth. As they put it, “Longtime Phillies broadcaster Chris Wheeler is out after four decades with the team, and Gary Matthews isn’t returning as color analyst, sources familiar with the situation tell The Associated Press.” It’s for the best, as Wheels was here too long and Sarge shone too bright to stay. He will live forever on Youtube, and keep his legacy as the guy who had Morgan Freeman in the booth on Civil Rights day and talked about hot actresses.

ESPN continues, “The decision to replace Wheeler and Matthews came from the network, according to multiple sources. Both announcers are expected to remain with the team in some capacity.” This can mean only one thing (actually it can mean dozens of things): Now is your time to shine, Kane Kalas. Put those poker cards down. Come join us. Bring Todd. Let’s get an all-Kalas booth, and we guess TMac can stay.

Or … wait … oh, shit … PUT CHARLIE IN THE BOOTH.

Charlie would need to take English lessons before broadcasting. Eloquent, he is not.
