This Evening: Book It

vampires>>> Building on her career as a New York Times Best Book of the Year winner and Pulitzer finalist (for Swamplandia!), the now-local Karen Russell will be appearing at the Free Library’s Central Branch, behind her new horror-volume Vampires in the Lemon Grove. Also appearing are Claire Vaye Watkins and Amity Gaige. We figure you’ve fallen seriously behind on that new year’s resolution to read more, so this is a chance to light that fire for real.

>>> Dude-fans and dudes alike can head on over to PhilaMOCA for the Tuesday Tune-Out, where Chipocrite will be performing a Big Lebowski-themed set. Robes optional.

>>> Or you can grab a (few) drinks in a bar or living room of your choice and drink every time they show Ted Nugent during the State of the Union.

“Pulizter”? Also, Vampires in the Lemon Grove is not exactly a horror-volume, fantastical though it may be. But the asshole in the audience who, during the Q&A, made a point of “correcting” Amity Gaige’s pronunciation of “calliope,” was pretty horrible. She said “kally-ope,” he said, “No, it’s kuh-lie-oh-pee.” For the record, either one is acceptable. What a Philly douche.

We started reading some of the book yesterday, and while the story we started wasn’t necessarily horror, it certainly creeped us out. And yes, douche.
