This Weekend: Christmas Card From A Blog In Philadelphia

FRIDAY:

>>> Hot off of their stint as the Philebrity Awards house band, where they did an excellent job, Juston Stens & The Get Real Gang play Kung Fu Necktie tonight, with support from Conversations with Enemies and Glow in the Dark.
>>> PhilaMOCA‘s End of the World symposium continues, with a panel called The End of World, Again: The Apocalypse in Media, Science, and Culture, followed by an end of the world party. Just remember, you’ll still be here tomorrow and so will that hangover.
>>> Or celebrate the end of the world by celebrating the future, as Norwegian Arms play a record release party at Johnny Brenda’s, along with the return of Pattern Is Movement, Laser Background, Night Panther, the premiere of Little Baby’s Ice Cream‘s Apocalypse flavor, and jams spun by DJ Eddie Austin all night long.
>>> Oh, and Happy Festivus.

SATURDAY:

>>> Head on over to 2424 Studios for the Philadelphia Independent Craft Market’s Famous Holiday Show, with 45+ handmade and vintage vendors, four live musical acts (Swinging Foxes! Hezekiah Jones! Spinning Leaves! Jason Ferraro of The Homophones!), and free PBR-sponsored refreshments all day. Finalize all of that shopping.
>>> Gear-heads, hit up the great DiPinto Rock & Roll Blow-Out Bash! for free food, free drink, live bands, and deals on guitars at equipment being sold at a loss. ‘Tis the reason for the season.
>>> Honor the tenth anniversary of his death at the Joe Strummer Tribute at North Star Bar, where Strummer tunes from his whole career will be played by Split Red, The Successful Failures, The Future Unwritten, Cold Roses, Betty Iron Thumbs, Blayer PointduJour & The Rockers Galore, I Yahn I Arkestra and more. Proceeds go to Strummerville, the charity started by Joe’s family and friends after this death that gives support, resources and performance opportunities to artists who would not normally have access to them.
>>> And the fuzz-pop/rock of Vivian Girls/Woods side-project The Babies can be heard with support from Swearin’ at Kungfu Necktie.

SUNDAY:

>>> It isn’t family time yet, so gear up for a rowdy Xmas-eve-eve friendhang at the 700 with DJ Jeremy Grites and Chris Wilson.
>>> Finalize those plans, hit the road, get your house ready for family, finish shopping, and do whatever else you have to do. But have yourself a merry little Christmas. We may have a small post or two up on Christmas Eve, but barring that, enjoy the holiday everyone, and we’ll see you later.
