From a press release:
The City of Philadelphia has many long-standing, dynamic relationships with Israel: we work closely with the Consul General of Israel in Philadelphia; one of our Sister Cities is Tel Aviv; Philadelphia hosts an Israeli film festival every spring; we are home to the National Museum of American Jewish History; and I just met with the Mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, last week.
With tensions escalating in the Middle East, we are very concerned about the prospects for peace. We fully support Israel’s right to defend itself from missiles landing on people’s homes and workplaces and killing civilians, and we will continue to support Israel’s right to defend itself. We are confident that President Obama and his Foreign Policy team will continue to do all that they can to ensure the continued safety of Israel and work with both sides to bring about a peaceful resolution.”
