Way up in North Philly, the PDDC’s Cultural Arts Center isn’t what you’d call one of the “sexy” non-profits: They don’t do anything with food trucks, they’re not making sleek, eco-friendly buildings or raising vegetables or animals in an artisinal fashion, and all of the art that comes out of the place is of the therapeutic nature. But that art is in fact the whole deal here. With their mission being to “foster creativity, self-confidence, and community connections for adults with developmental disabilities through classes in visual arts, music, dance and theater, outings to cultural venues, and opportunities to work with other artists and arts-based organizations,” Cultural Arts Center does a ton of good and also, by the looks of thing above, have a lot of fun, too. The clip above is called “A Weather Forecast” and was made in collaboration with the artists at PDDC’s Cultural Arts Center, with the guidance of Joanna Quigley (former dance instructor at PDDC). All props and movements were created by the artists at PDDC with the guidance of Joanna Quigley (former dance instructor at PDDC) and don’t mind if we tell you that this video made our Grinch hearts grow three sizes.
It’s almost Philebrity Awards time, when we pay the folks doing work like this some special attention (see last year’s here), and this just got us way in the mood to celebrate people who do good in this town. Got any favorites of your own? Tell us in the comments.
So there you have it: The world is not totally made of shit. Have you got some good news? If so, send it to tips[at]philebrity[dot]com with “GOOD MOTHERFUCKING NEWS!” in the subject header — we’d love to hear about it.
