Forecasts Call For 70MPH Winds, But What Does That Actually Mean?
As Hurricane Sandy gets closer and her track becomes more set in stone, the forecasts are becoming more and more accurate. A number of predictions coming in put the sustained winds at around 70 miles per hour (the max for Sandy right now is looking to be around 90MPH, but could go up to 95MPH making Sandy a category 2). So what can 70 MPH sustained winds actually do? Well, here’s some video of some wind gusts at that speed (the second half is really more insane than the first). Those winds can take small animals, and blow them a mile away. They can cause widespread power outages and uproot whole trees, and of course, there will be tons and tons of debris.
