ZOMG! Underage Sexting Prob 2B Totes Solved By Pennsylvania Statehouse

If you are the parent of a middle school child, we don’t have to tell you that your child values and respects — in no particular order — Justin Bieber, vampires and the Pennsylvania State Legislature. Well guess which one of their cultural icons has just sent a bill to Governor Corbett making it illegal for them to sext each other? That’s right, both houses of Justin Bieber voted overwhelmingly in favor of legislation that, if signed by the Gov, will make sexting totes illegal, burdening your little scofflaw with a summary or misdemeanor offense that they will have to get expunged when they turn 18, whereupon, they can legally resume sexting like a normal person.

This bill is actually an attempt (not to say a perfect one) to lighten the penalties. Right now sexting is a felony, and teens convicted of it have to register as sex offenders for life. The new law still calls for punishment, but it can now be considered a summary offense with much less dire consequences.
