The Archdiocese Is No Longer Interested In Running High Schools
Cardinal Charles Chaput announced today that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will no longer manage the area’s Catholic High Schools itself, but instead the schools will be run by the Faith in the Future Foundation (not this group of the same name, which is all about the apocalypse, though wouldn’t that be fun). According to the Washington Post, the group will oversee the diocese’s 15 high schools and four special education schools starting September 1st.
The Faith in the Future Foundation was created months ago in the wake of the outpouring of support after the diocese announced they were closing a number of schools. According to WaPo, “the original mission of the foundation, led by former Cigna Corp. chief executive Edward Hanway, was to strengthen all local Catholic high schools through fundraising and marketing. Now, the group will do that and manage a new independent school system that serves about 15,000 students on a $128 million budget.” The foundation will not get paid for the five-year contract with the diocese.
