Here’s Your Quick Guide To Local Hate Groups From The Southern Poverty Law Center

Because nothing says “Happy Monday” like reminding yourself of all of the hate and anger in the world

Courtesy of the Southern Poverty Law Center, here is a look at some of the active hate groups in our area. You’ve got the standard white-power nonsense alongside the Nation of Islam and those Israelite Church of God in Jesus Christ dudes that are always yelling at people around Market East. The list was compiled by the SPLC considering only active groups, based off of “hate group publications and websites, citizen and law enforcement reports, field sources and news reports.” Pennsylvania’s got 34 such groups, which is about 14 over the national average, but well below Georgia’s 65 or California’s 84. And if you’re looking for a hate-free place, check out Rhode Island or Vermont; who either only have enough hatred for one group each, or just have very unorganized people.

I’m pretty sure that those guys at Market East dressed up like Arabian wizards are ACTUALLY members of the Israelite School of Universal Practical Knowledge (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Israelite_School_of_Universal_Practical_Knowledge), a splinter group of the ICGJC. I know this because a group of them live in the apartment below me, and I’ve seen them getting dropped off in what are basically company vans, I’ve seen their literature all over the neighborhood, and I’ve found their wizard clothes in the stairwell.

This particular group is actually a bunch of really nice guys. I recently gave one of them a cutting from one of my spider plants.
