Keystone Weekend Is Pennyslvania’s Best-Kept Vaguely Interesting Secret

The phrase Keystone Weekend calls to mind many things: Ritzy ski resorts, college visits, high school kids down the shore without parents. What you probably aren’t picturing is a collective of Pennsylvania-based professionals, camped out together for hotel-based workshops. And totally riding Lightning Racer!

According Keystone Weekend’s mission statement, the somewhat secretive invite-only event — be held at Hershey Hotel Thursday, September 20 through Saturday, September 22 — is a “non-commercial, non-partisan private forum” that gathers together Pennsylvania’s best and brightest to shoot the breeze for a weekend in illustrious Hershey, PA. The biography listed on the event’s official Twitter page adds that Keystone Weekend aims to promote “Collective Pennsylvania Wisdom.” While some may see this as “It’s pronounced Skoo-kull” and “Try not to talk to the cops at Wawa when you’re drunk,” to the event’s organizers, it means bringing together PA-style experts — AN ELITE CABAL, if you will — and having them hold forth on as diverse a range of specialties as the brainstorming committee can muster. Previous attendees include Mayor Nutter, M. Night Shymalan, Gov. Ed Rendell, and Todd Carmichael, the dude behind La Colombe. Attendees for this year have not been listed yet, because duh, it’s secret.

We, the Philebrity, have not been invited to join….yet. But that’s cool, we didn’t even want to go. We totally have other plans that weekend anyway.
