Submitted For Your Consideration: Just A Small Portion Of Justin Michell’s Enormous Dice Collection

A Complete Die, etc. is a group show currently on view at Fleisher/Ollman Gallery, curated by Philly artist Anthony Campuzano, featuring work by Kate Abercrombie, John Finneran, Zach Harris, Karen Kilimnik, Anissa Mack, Mark Mahosky, Jessica Mein and Justin Michell. The show’s makeup is mostly friends and colleagues, but the cornerstone of the show is Los Angeles artist Michell’s massive dice collection, which ranges in variety from two-sided die on up to a thousand-sided die. (You read that right.)
“The center point or vortex or frankly the thing that set me off arranging this exhibition is the dice collection,” says Campuzano. “It was my desire to see his collection again, in person and in total. In 2009, I was in LA and his collection was just beginning. At that point it filled only a small box or so, and now, in just 3 years, it [takes up] five large vitrines when displayed.” A Complete Die, etc. is on view until the 24th of August (when there will be a closing reception from 6–8pm); you can also view the collection, up close and personal, here.
