Guild Program, Mural Arts Collaborate On Urban Farm And Mural

The good (and prolific) people at the Mural Arts Program are unveiling yet another new mural, at 27th and Master Streets. The mural sits at the New Growth Project Marathon Farm, Marathon Grill’s Urban Farm. The mural itself, called “The Abundant City” by Eurhi Jones, was a collaborative work with youth participants enrolled in the Guild Program, a partnership between the Mural Arts Program, the Youth Violence Reduction Partnership, and the Philadelphia Prison System. The program offers stable, short-term employment for individuals who have had some involvement with the criminal justice system, and guides them into apprenticeships further down the road.

At the urban farm mural, guild program members built chicken coops, shade structures, a cooking station and an outdoor kitchen, which is a whole hell of a lot more than we’ve built in the last ten years. They also worked with muralist Eurhi Jones to help design and paint the murals.
