Lose Daffy’s, Gain A Uniqlo
We know, we know, you are still all kinds of messed up about the end of Daffy’s. But there may be a silver lining, and that silver lining might be could be a Uniqlo, the Japanese chain that makes very nice basics at affordable prices. (Like H&M, however, NEVER WEAR ALL UNIQLO; you will look like a Gattaca borg, sent to “fit in.”) As news of another Center City closing hit last week — this time, Korean restaurant Miga — Foobooz tweeted that Uniqlo would be taking the space eventually. We followed up with Foobooz, and their claim tracked back to this buried item in a Michael Klein column some six weeks back. What does any of it mean? It means that there is hope for a CC Uniqlo, snappy dressers; or it could just mean that Uniqlo could be the new urban mirage like the Apple store was for years and years, or what that Northern Liberties Whole Foods will be forever and ever.
