And Now, Finnigan’s Wake Isn’t Getting That $74k Grant

Remember when we told you that Finnigan’s Wake was getting a grant of $74,000 from the Penn Treaty Special Services District and you guys all got (rightfully) pissed off? SIKE! They’re totally not getting that grant. Well, they were, but then one of Finnigan’s co-owners was all like, “Whoa, man people really don’t seem to like us, and they like even less that we’re getting this money. Can we not get this money anymore? Please?”

According to Hayden Mitman at the Star, co-owner Mike Driscoll withdrew his request for the grant after finding out from just about everyone that no one was cool with it. The grant was awarded as a, “community beautification project,” but many people saw through that and, “expressed concerns that the funds would help afford the bar and nightclub’s outdoor expansion plan—a plan that many neighbors opposed.” Matt Ruben, president of the Northern Liberties Neighbors Association, said he received more than 450 emails opposing the plan, which included (a part that we missed) a plan to strike Bodine Street off of city maps and essentially allow Finnigan’s to own the street. That, however, may still happen.

But for now, GREAT WORK EVERYONE! PAT YOURSELVES ON THE BACK! YOU DESERVE IT!

    Thank God.

FWIW, the bill to strike Bodine has already been passed. Shrug.
