Have You Done Your Part To Welcome America Yet? Get On It

As we come up to the 4th of July holiday itself, the 10-day Welcome America festival/events/cluster-of-people is beginning to wrap up. However, there’s still a ton of stuff going on today and tomorrow. Such as:

TODAY:
>>>You can add your touch to the Roots Mural project by helping paint it over at Independence Mall from 2PM to 5PM.
>>>Peter Nero and The Philly POPS! will be performing the 11th annual (and possibly last?) Independence Day concert from 8PM to 10 PM at 6th and Chestnut. Expect some patriotic marches, anthems, film music, and icy glares.
>>>And The Roots Presents Fourth of July Jam is going on across the city, featuring: Talib Kewli, Ground Up, Khemist, Mazon, and Lee Mazin at the TLA; Dice Raw, Young Gliss, and DJ sets by Les Professionnels at The Legendary Dobbs; Jazzy Jeff, DJ Drama, J Rocc, Rich Medina, Questlove, DJ Static and DJ Phish at Voyeur; and Draw Straws hosted by Ed Blammo with 3 DJs and drink specials at Silk City.

TOMORROW:
>>>From 10AM to 11AM, you can watch/heckle Mayor Nutter and Aging White Man Tom Corbett at the Celebration of Freedom Ceremony on the steps of Independence Hall.
>>>All day long, admission to the National Museum of American Jewish History is FREE.
>>>Check out, “More than 5,000 parade participants, marching musical groups, floats, military branches, and a multitude of special guests march through our nation’s most historic mile” during the Philadelphia Independence Day Parade from 11AM to 12:30PM. After that, hop on over to the Independence Visitor Center to sing Happy Birthday to America and eat a special birthday cake, because nothing is better at noon on a 91 degree day than some cake.
>>>For the history fans out there (this whole weekend is kind of made for you) check out the Let Freedom Ring Ceremony with Bell Tapping, where descendants of the signers of the Declaration of Independence will honor their ancestors by tapping the legendary bell, from 1PM to 2PM, at … well … the Liberty Bell.
>>>The pre-concert Party on the Parkway this year, from noon to 7PM, will feature people dressed in red, white, and blue; face painting; arts and crafts; and dance and musical acts. Oh, and bodybuilders flipping 1,000lb, tires and pulling trucks because that’s the most American thing anyone could think of.
>>>Find Waldo. KILL HIM.
>>>And finally, the main event: This year’s concert on the Parkway features The Roots, Joe Jonas, Daryl Hall, Queen Latifah, and Common. We reached out for exact set times, but were told they may not be 100% set yet, possibly because of the flowing nature of the whole thing, and maybe even some special guests. The show starts at 7PM and immediately following is the grand fireworks show. If you aren’t on the parkway and you don’t want to watch it on TV, where is the best spot to see the colorful show? Uwishunu has the answer.

Philebrity will be in holiday mode posting for the rest of this holiday week. Check back with us later this week for Weekend Picks. Also, join us this Friday for our Welcome Jamaica Pool Party. Have a great holiday.
