Department Of Nostalgia: Brigantine Castle Lives On

In its heyday, Brigantine Castle was probably the most popular tourist attraction in Brigantine. It served as a venue for events like a Rocky Horror Picture Show night, as well as a fun summer job for a lot of ghoulish people. The castle was destroyed by fire in 1987, a few years after it was closed and zoned for demolition.
The castle’s kitschy glory lives on in the memories of people like Paul Spatola, who worked at the castle from 1980-85. He put together a slideshow of photos films from the castle. There’s also a Facebook page where members wax nostalgic by sharing old photos and memories of the castle. If you like your history a little more contextualized, The Brigantine Beach Historical Museum has an exhibit on the castle.
