This Weekend: Nice In The Water

FRIDAY:

>>> As we’ve been mentioning, our pool party with Les Professionnels happens tonight at North Shore Beach Club — and then not again until July! The weather is gonna be lovely, the pool will be warm, and admission is dead cheap. Join us.
>>> Elswehere, for fans of indie horror movies, the Mausoleum Art Show of Horrors kicks off this weekend’s Mausoleum Horror Convention at PhilaMOCA.
>>> Get Behind Me Satan is a BRAT Productions play, based on the White Stripes album of the same name. It happens tonight and tomorrow.
>>> For the heads: Get Up With It, which is basically a cover band starring Charlie Hall (The War On Drugs, Silver Ages, etc.) that deals exclusively with Miles Davis’s electric period, plays at Cianfrani Park, for free, at 7pm; and over at Studio 34 in West Philly, Folkadelphia hosts outsider folk legend Kath Bloom in what’s sure to be an intimate and memorable show.
>>> And, should you require the indoor sweaty kind of fun, there’s Broadzilla at Barbarella.

SATURDAY:

>>> International House hosts two very different films from the 1960s this weekend; first, on Friday night and Saturday morning, there’s a fully restored edition of The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine; and on Saturday evening, there’s a screening of Roman Polanski‘s 1962 feature-length debut, Knife In The Water. It’s a dark, suspenseful psychological thriller about people being awful to one another. We highly recommend it.
>>> Meanwhile, during the day, as we noted, Bloomsday happens once again at the Rosenbach Museum & Library.
>>> In live music, there’s Adam & Dave’s Bloodline plus Birdie Busch at Morgan’s Pier, early show at 6pm; and Jeff The Brotherhood and Heavy Cream at First Unitarian Church.
>>> And in the realm of truly inspired tropical-flavored dance parties, there is Bottom Power at Voyeur. You could do much, much worse.

SUNDAY:
>>> To the good and decent fathers and the products of them, we’d like to say Happy Father’s Day.
>>> On the other hand, disowned/disappointed/alienated by your father? Never a problem in this town. Join DJ Deejay’s Big Gay Boat Party on the Moshulu, or go see Destroyer at Union Transfer, and celebrate your very modern (classic, in its way) condition.
