Noontime Nuggetz: Now Here’s A Little Story I Gots To Tell …

Much like they did at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, here is The Roots (from this past weekend’s Roots Picnic) performing The Beastie Boys‘ “Paul Revere.”

Terrible, they also murdered the De La set

  • SonOfDad

    Terrible?? Stop it.

@36cd9e4bb48ce723be1ba1411815b360:disqus  Murdered as in the negative sense?  That’s too bad.  Yet, expected.

I honestly still don’t get why anyone gives the Roots the amount of credit or shine they actually get.  They are a cool gimmick (“Ooooh, look. They actually play instruments. That’s special.”) and ?uest is an attention whore.  That’s it.  Then again, it’s not like the Roots Picnic (or overall fan base) is packed with hip hop fans either.  (Most of them I know don’t give a damn about them post Things Fall Apart ….  myself included)

I would much rather hear the produced instrumental bang over the speakers vs. a late night backing band provide a poor substitute.

That’s “She’s Crafty,” not “Paul Revere,” correct?

The Roots are an amazingly talented band, but when they back someone they just overpower the songs with their jam band orchestra sound.  Sometimes simple is better.

“Jam band orchestra sound?” This is a Go-Go beat – as much a tribute to Chuck Brown as it was to MCA. Plus the riff sampled on “She’s Crafty.” I’m not sure how people can hate on this. It was a pretty epic live version of “Paul Revere,” except for Black Thought’s mic not working on the first run through.
