Roots Picnic Reveals: Philly Is Pretty Much Done With Kid Cudi, James Murphy Could Be Mayor Of This Place If He Wanted To

Two items of note from this weekend’s Roots Picnic: One is that James Murphy set up a last-minute DJ set at Morgan’s Pier after his Picnic set on Saturday night — an event that may or may not have melted your Facebook feed in the hours immediately previous to this happening. Second item: Kid Cudi (pictured), set to be Sunday’s big headliner, was a no-show, leaving the Roots to clean-up duty with a final set that included a cameo from Freeway. But why the flakeout? Cudi went to Tumblr to explain that it was due to, oh, you know, PRIVATE JET PROBLEMS, and though this may be true, it’s a bad look. Because A) this implies that the gig was so low-priority to Cudi that he couldn’t even give himself a 12-hour window to get to Philly and B) WHAT KIND OF DICK GOES ON TUMBLR TO WHINE ABOUT PRIVATE JET PROBLEMS. Add this to the fact that Cudi was booed quite roundly at the Liacouras Center last year (“nobody was feeling it,” one eyewitness told us), and yeah, Cudi, we’re thinking we don’t really need you around here.
