Screw The Sugar Tax: NY Is Trying To Make Big Sodas Illegal

As part of a plan to cut down on the city’s sugar intake, Mayor Bloomberg is trying to, “ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts.” Maybe this infographic was right after all.

In a world where we tell restaurants they can’t serve take out it’s somehow tyrannical to tell a restaurant they can’t serve large sodas?  It may be a bad idea but it’s not tyrannical.  Not to mention you can still buy your 3 liters at the grocer.

The white-peoplefication on NYC will be it’s undoing. If it hasn’t been already.

re: “sale of any cup or bottle of sweetened drink larger than 16 fluid ounces — about the size of a medium coffee would be prohibited ”

16 fl. oz. is also about the size of a pint of beer.

Will free soda-refills also become illegal? That might make me cut down on Arby’s or McDonalds or any of the other fine restaurants I frequent.
