The Association of Alternative Newsmedia have announced the nominees for their 2012 AltWeekly Awards, and we have some local greats in the running.

Philadelphia Weekly‘s Tara Murtha earned herself a nomination for Arts Feature (circulation 50,000 and over) for Made To Change, a profile on the singer of Stargazer Lily’s transition into becoming a man. City Paper‘s Daniel Denvir has earned himself two nominations: News Story (Short Form) for this, this, and this; and Special Topic: Economic Inequality for his cover story on the spread of segregation. In addition, the PW staff is nominated in the public service category for The Rape Issue.

So congratulations to all, and we hope you win. Because no matter what anyone says, being nominated in indeed cool, but winning? Winning is really, really awesome.
