No word on if anyone got “Burrelled” or not, but Pat Burrell sure did have some fun on his return to town. According to Deadspin, Pat the Bat was partying at the Pen & Pencil Friday night while wearing a blazer, sans shirt. He was hanging out with Chase and Jen Utley, dancing around, having [...]

Sometimes it’s a teacher’s responsibility to light a fire under her students, to inspire them to be the best they can be. But when a 7th grader goes up in flames during a spontaneous combustion experiment, maybe the teacher did her job too well. Here’s the new “Best Storyteller in Philadelphia,” the winner of Saturday’s [...]

Do you think you have the greatest garden around? Do you stare out your windows at all hours to make sure no one messes with it? Well, maybe you should get some kind of award for that. And why not get that award in the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society‘s 2012 City Gardens Contest? The contest, which [...]

Coincidentally, taken across the street from this. We understand taking off your hair to enjoy a nice slice of pizza, but to not finish the slice and leave your hair behind? Mistakes were made. Seeing something around town of note? Cameraphone it to: tips[at]philebrity[dot]com.

The way this season is turning out, it could be one of those dark years where only one Phillies player makes the All-Star team (last time that happened with a position player was Jimmy Rollins in 2001). Sure, Cole Hamels probably deserves it, but picking the pitchers is up to the manager of the team, [...]

While Adam Wallacavage didn’t get the props he rightly deserved for his inspiration on the look of Tim Burton‘s Dark Shadows, he did get a chance to talk to the New York Times‘ T Magazine about his octopi-inspired chandeliers. Wallacavage told T Mag, “My style can be dark and gloomy looking at times, but I [...]

This is an oldie but a goodie (fall 2010, to be exact), but, you know, just in case you were wondering what the ultimate fantasy of every strange neighborhood ATV posse in the city is — for it is, once again, their season — well, it’s this. It is exactly this.

Over the weekend, what appears to have been a Ticketmaster glitch was spread around the internet, seemingly showing a partial lineup for Jay-Z and Budweiser‘s Made In America Music Festival. The leaked lineup includes Pearl Jam, Sweden’s Miike Snow, Philly’s own Santigold, Skate-punk-rap-crew Odd Future, Degrassi‘s Drake, Dutch DJ Afrojack, Skrillex (the reason we don’t [...]

An exasperated reader of both sites wrote in over the weekend and vented thusly with a modest proposal: I’m thinking of starting a Philadelphia blog. Its purpose would be to engage every single scumbag troll found on every article at philly.com and elsewhere, and flame-war them until they have nothing left. I will take on [...]

Miles Davis at the Electric Factory, November 1970. Miles Davis was a man of few words. When he did speak, his words often had a similar effect to a hand grenade being lobbed into the room. In 1987, he was invited to a White House dinner by Ronald Reagan. Few of the guests appeared to [...]

Fucking Old City. We never see shit like this in person because we have a self-imposed ban on ever going south of Market between Front St., 4th Street, and Walnut from 5:30PM on Friday through 9AM Sunday morning. You should try it. It does wonders for you on the weekends if you just pretend none [...]

Made by Frank’s Kitchens on behalf of Yards Brewing, this high-wheeling, water-squirting, post-apocalyptic pirate ship thingamazoid won the People’s Choice Award. (Our editor was also on the judge’s panel, and a good time was had by [...]
