From The Desk Of Lushlife: Billy Jam, Philadelphia Hip-Hop Magazine, 1991
This is incredible. I was doing a radio interview and on-air performance with legendary hip-hop journalist and broadcaster, Billy Jam on WFMU last week, and he showed me a jaw-dropping piece of Philadelphia musical ephemera. Check out this hip-hop “magazine” that Jam received circa 1991 from a long-forgotten person somewhere in Philly. Hip-Hop Digest was printed on two double-sided pieces of regular A4 paper, and as you can see, it was clearly designed using Wordperfect. It’s worth noting that the zine contains a rare, early interview with Wu-Tang Clan’s GZA, back when he was signed to New York-based Cold Chillin’ Records as The Genius. Whoa.
