New CityHall iPhone App About To Drop

In the not-too-distant future, you will be able to get City Hall to do fuck-all
about your neighborhood problems with this handy iPhone app!

We truly admire the pluck and gumption of Freshman City Councilman Bobby Henon; he’s accessible, he’s got ideas, and, because of these things, he probably goes home every night and pulls his hair straight out of his head after spending all day in the generally dead-backward place that is City Council Chambers. But today, he’s got a little thing to be proud of: The new CityHall App is set to launch on iTunes any day now. Dreamed up by Henon and his staff — and said to be of no or little cost to the city itself (you hear that, Kenney?) — the app is a handy way to report and send City Hall photos of issues like trash, graffiti and potholes. What happens once those things are reported, as you know, is anybody’s guess. But at least Henon is opening up new channels of communication. Good on him, sayeth us.

No, not good. The city needs to get its 311 app up and running. Council members hate 311 because it allows constituents (in theory) to get directly in touch with departments about issues with letting the council person play intermediary. If 311 functioned properly with an app, it would take away council members’ ability to campaign easily on getting potholes filled and vacant lots cleaned up etc. Instead, they’d have to concentrate on and answer for the legislation they propose.

Used to be a nice app called SeeClickFix that was all linked up to 311′s grill. I guess that’s over with now?
