PSA: Shadfest Needs Vendors

This year’s edition of Shadfest, the celebration of all things Fishtown (especially the long lost shad fish), will be taking place at Penn Treaty Park on April 28 (weather permitting: rain date is the 29th). The music is all set up, featuring Girls Rock Philly, the Rock to the Future All Star Band, The City Wide Specials, Grandchildren, Buried Beds, and The York Street Hustle. While the music is ready to go, Shadfest still needs some vendors. They are currently registering arts and craft vendors as well as non-profit orgs that would like to have a booth at the event. If you want to be part of this consistently great event, the link for vendor registration is here.

Shad are definitely not “long lost”. While the run is certainly not approaching pre-industrial pollution numbers, the Delaware and Schuylkill still have a sizable run of American and Hickory shad. They are now moving up river from the bay and ocean.

I once watched a guy bone a shad fish.
