This Weekend: Dance With Girls All Night Long

FRIDAY:
>>> Congratulations. It’s March, which means thirty-one days of pure, unadulterated women awareness. Way to notice. Don’t blink now, though, while Robert Drake’s Sex Dwarf rages on with a Women of New Wave-themed party at Fluid, celebrating the chicks who brought life to the instrumentally undead. We’re looking at you, Su Tissue.
>>> Dance party at the PMA! Art After 5 hosts the mighty Balkans that are the West Philadelphia Orchestra.
>>> Go down in the afterglow of a night of drunk raving and ass shaking brought to you by the Broadzilla DJs, Philly’s premier throwers of all things party. They’re inviting you to “Go South” free of charge to Teri’s Diner and Bar at 1126 S 9th Street, just below Washington. Hey, they’re not bad at it, either.

SATURDAY:
>>> Can you cook a mean chili? Friday was the last day to enter your slop into the 3rd Annual Philly Chili Bowl at the Fleisher Memorial, so we sure hope you did. Famed Philly food critic Drew Lazor and Joe Bernstein et al will announce the winner for heartiest amalgam of meat, sauce and sass. Leftover food goes to Project H.O.M.E, for homeless people. Come on, it’s like making home in a bowl.

SUNDAY:
>>> Zoe Strauss‘ live talk at the Museum about her 10-year highway installation project based on Springsteen’s musical evolution is SOLD OUT, but you can pay homage to Bruuuuuuce yourself on the mic at Bob and Barbara’s Springsteen Karaoke night. Or belt a couple of The Monkees Greatest Hits, in light of the recent passing of the smallest and wickedest Monkee in the barrel, Davy Jones.
>>>Get in some live action while you’re at it. Brother-sister rockabilly act Dex Romweber Duo hits Johnny Brenda’s with ORBO & The Longshots, and Philly-based garage rockers Toy Soldiers.
>>>The Rotunda’s Womynfest challenges gender norms by misspelling “women” on purpose and hosting an interesting line-up of female (term extended to include transy folks, cross-dressers, and writers) entertainment from the likes of Mia Johnson (Two-and-a-Half Chicks) and drag burlesque troupe, Liberty City Kings. Shut up. It’s our month. We get to be whatever we wanna be.
