Jan Berenstain, who along with her husband Stan created The Berenstain Bears, passed away of stroke complications on Friday. Stan (who passed away in 2005) and Jan, both Philadelphia natives, created a lasting legacy with the Berenstain Bears, which have been read by pretty much every child at one point or another since their inception in 1962. Jan Berenstain is survived by children, grandchildren, and more than 260 books in the Berenstain Bears series. She was 88 years old.
