Readers Cameraphone: Aw C’mon, Guys, That’s A Perfectly Good Keith Haring Mural You’re Ruining

If memory serves, this would be the longstanding Keith Haring mural, over where South Philly bumps into G-Ho, painted by the late artist himself along with some neighborhood kids in the mid-1980s. This mural has been in danger before, but it’s always survived somehow, through weather and gentrification and what have you. Ridiculously and sadly, though, as our tipster points out, some knucklehead just did some concrete work right over Haring’s signature. Anything that can be done about this? Probably not, at this point. The damage would seem to be done. Oh, Philly.

Mural art isn’t forever, time and the elements will destroy them all.It is a shame that people don’t have alittle more respect for them.I suppose they see it as progress stopping for nothing not even art.

Not sure if I prefer the slow obliteration or the the top-down civic blessing/preservation of art on the street:

Oh Philly. With your development, gentrification, & progress. Why can’t you be a depopulating shithole like Buffalo or Pittsburgh.
