Last Night: Ricky Radio In The White Room

Apple joins the ranks of megashops like Free People hosting local events in exchange for dibs on the indie nature of Philly’s arts circuit. It’s an understated promotional strategy that slaps a familiar face on a corporate logo. Case in point: Ricky Radio, AKA local singer-songwriter/producer extraordinaire Rick Friedrich, played the Apple Store on Walnut Street last night to celebrate the debut of his album AM/FM, on his brand-new label, Bold New Breeds. This was the store’s third live gig since opening its doors in 2010. A stage area was set up in front of the Genius Bar, while a headshot of Friedrich lit up the flatscreen monitors lining the back wall. What resulted was a short, sweet, industry-heavy photo-op, at the perfect time: Ricky Radio releases AM/FM today on iTunes, among other digital retailers.
