Recommended Listening: Jay Kirk Talks Virtual Pain Relief on NPR

Last Sunday, journalist and Penn professor of nonfiction writing, Jay Kirk, spoke on NPR’s All Things Considered about the startling discovery in the field of pain management  he explores in a feature in this month’s GQ (the one with Michelle Williams on the cover).

The article tells the story of Sam Brown, a West Point grad who found relief from the agony of burn treatment in a wintery virtual reality, after an IED exploded on his platoon in Afghanistan. Listen here for Kirk’s observations, starting at the 2:02 mark.
