Mayor Nutter, School District Agree On Deal To Keep Winter Rec Programming

It was originally announced earlier this week that the Philadelphia School District would be closing schools early and and keeping them closed on weekends, cutting out school recreational activities, to save the PSD money.

Well now, Mayor Nutter and School District Chief Recovery Officer Tom Knudsen worked out a deal to keep the schools open until 9PM on weekdays, and keep some buildings open on weekends. According to the press release:

In light of the serious financial issues facing the School District, the City will consolidate and shift its Recreation Department programming from eighty-three school building into forty-eight locations. The City will also pay $175,000 to assist in keeping these programs operating. The School District will continue to keep their facilities open until 9:00 p.m. on weekdays

Indoor facilities at schools will remain open through March 17, 2012 to allow all leagues and activities to finish their seasons.
