Hitting The Small Screens This Valentine’s Day, A Very Kutcher-Less Surprise

Last February, when the super-incentive Film Tax Credit was officially frozen, the future of insourcing Hollywood movie production into Philly looked grim. But in the words of Mother Superior from The Sound of Music, “When the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.” Now, that might be sticking an extra feather in the diplomatic cap of Tom Corbett, who’s since reinstated tax break, since Philly’s die-hard film geeks are still doing damage control to help bring the industry back up to its once-booming status. The Greater Philadelphia Film Office, headed by Sharon Pinkenson, has announced the special V-day release of www.Film.org, a streamlined LinkdIn-style electronic database that connects film vendors, crew, and hiring producers, replacing the nearly-two-decade-old printed Film & Video Production Guide. And yet, the Yellow Pages continue to exist. Good news for local film enthusiasts:

Visitors will be able to register to attend regularly scheduled Greater Philadelphia Filmmakers’ panels, lectures and screenings. Calls for entries, screening schedules & special announcements of area Film Festivals will also available on the events calendar. In addition, visitors will be able to find out What’s Shooting & What’s Screening in the region, including registering for free movie passes!

This Valentine’s Day, they’re asking ALL YOU GUYS to show your love by posting or Tweeting “I <3 The NEW Film.org”. Think of it as giving a candy-heart to somebody who doesn’t just like the taste, they grind their teeth thinking about it at night.

Congrats to the Philly Film Office! They work their butts off, making sure that we continue to get film and TV projects in our area. That means JOBS!
looking forward to their new site

Does this justify Sharon Pinkenson’s $200K+ yearly salary? And is it really fair that all of the local film and video people have to pay to be listed on the site? The “LinkedIn style” doesn’t include the free profile registration. And is it just a coincidence that all of the non-production-related features are being added just a year after Cinedelphia launched? Nope.

And by the way, just this past Monday RESURRECT DEAD director Jon Foy told off one of the Film Office employees at the Troc screening for not helping his film in the least bit, a film that is obviously the most visibility Philadelphia has received in the film world since Shyamalan’s heyday. I’m not hating, but I truly do wonder what that office does with their time, they have at least five employees.
