This Will Be Weird: Phils Games To Be Broadcast On FM

CBS Radio’s Talk Radio 1210 WPHT and SportsRadio 94 WIP have made a deal for both stations to broadcast Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen’s announcing of this year’s Phillies games simultaneously. While you would have every right to believe that is something that should have happened 30 years ago and should not be news at all, this is Philly radio we’re talking about: It is like the rusty rifle in Charlton Heston’s cold, dead hands. Meanwhile, it’s probably all a little bit too late anyway; can you even imagine hearing Larry Andersen’s voice without the delicate AM fog that makes it so very comforting and part and parcel of Every Perfect Summer Thing Ever? We do not want to.

And radio outside Phila is obviously a very modern institution, right? Enough self hate. New Phila can’t related.

I see what you’re saying, but I think in this case, it’s actual love of Philadelphia that makes me wonder what the fuck is wrong with the radio here. As far as other cities go, well, I’m not qualified to comment.

Nevertheless, so long as I got my Bob Perkins on WRTI, I can’t really complain.

Perhaps we should just be happy that we now have the option to avoid hearing Rush Limbaugh in between innings?

While less Limbaugh is certainly a major plus, do you really want to hear more commercials featuring that bloated pelican Angelo Cataldi or Howard Eskin schilling for PA wine and spirits?

    Fuck those guys.

I had a roommate a few years ago who I’m fairly sure turned conservative because he’d fall asleep with the Phillies on and get 8 hours of brain washing every night as he slept.
