Readers Cameraphone: No Stopping Anytime, All The Time

On 13th between Arch and Filbert, every morning, the bike lane (“no stopping any time”) is filled with vehicles. This is pretty frustrating for bicyclists, because the police are showing a blatant disregard for bicyclists and the law.

Weirdly enough, these are some of the best parking jobs we’ve ever seen in the city. They’re all so neatly in line and spaced perfectly, it’s like the Jedi mind trick of bike lane parking. “We are parked legally.”

    Given the location, might be “look the other way” parking spots for courthouse employees.

    How ironic considering the auto show going on.

    Just do what any good urban cyclist should do in this situation: hit their rear-views as you bike by.

    One of our staff saw a UPS truck this week parked in the bike lane on 13th at Locust. According to the Parking Authority woman giving it a ticket, it was for parking in a “no stopping zone.”

    At least you know the UPS truck isn’t there for very long.

    Funny that I got a ticket on 13th just north of Locust, before they repaved the road and hadn’t posted signs yet. When I went back the next day to take pics to fight it I saw the same cop parked in the bike lane (as I have several times since). Asshole.

    Ha! I’ve almost taken that exact picture and emailed it to Philebrity like 15 times (but, well, laziness and not wanting to slow down on the ol’ bike). But yes! Annoys me to no end. Why even have the damn bike lane?

    Oh, also, meant to say: most days, at least one of the cars parked there is a police cruiser (unoccupied).

    snake is right, this is a CJC issue. i’d say even police going in to testify that day.

    Why is the bike lane as wide as an SUV?

    @folsomsanchez: for the same reason there are two lanes for auto traffic. sometimes even cyclists pass each other on a main thoroughfare.

    It’s cops who have court dates at the Criminal Justice Center. Hence the skillful car handling. And the blatant disregard for the law.
