Howard Stern Claims He Killed WYSP
It was announced this morning that 94.1 WYSP would soon become SportsRadio 94 WIP, simulcasting the content already on 610 WIP. The switch will take place on September 6, with most of WIP’s programming staying the same (with the addition of the omnipresent Michael Barkann). The switch is due to many things: declining ratings, increasing ratings for the sports talk station 97.5 The Fanatic, and according to Howard Stern, Howard Stern.
WYSP was the first station to broadcast Stern in syndication out of New York City, but Stern claims WYSP couldn’t survive after his radio show moved away from free radio to satellite radio in 2006. Ever since he left, morning ratings have been declining due to Preston and Steve on WMMR and the fact that Stern was replaced with Danny Bonaduce. That certainly didn’t help.
