Old City Bar Breaks New Ground In Ever-Evolving String Of “Hell On Earth In Old City” Concepts

Now, we know this will sound rich coming from a site that’s put on an all-Belle & Sebastian night once a year for the last seven years, but c’mon, Irish Pol: All Pearl Jam? All night? Every Monday? And encouraging people to wear Pearl Jam gear? You guys must really, really hate getting laid.

  • Timo

You lost me at Dave Matthews. And these pissing contests flow both ways. Neal Schon played guitar in Santana, and was asked to be in Derek and the f*cking Dominos. So when is your big Journey night going to be? Tuesdays?

  • hughtensl

    Huh?

  • lightonfire

If John Bonham had lived … he’d never go to Pearl Jam Mondayz

  • hughtensl

Timo…don’t know where all the negativity is coming from. You ask. I try to explain as best as possible. And, I am quite sure, even you have heard “Don’t Stop Believing” too much.

  • pagoda

read and weep philly.com comments section.

  • Timo

and surely you have heard “Even Flow” too much.

  • hughtensl

Yes, Timo…that is why there is a strict rule on Pearl Jam night of NO Even Flow, Jeremy, Alive, or Black.

  • Timo

That changes everything. See you there!

  • chuck63

I don’t think I like the whole “Pearl Jam elitism” vibe embodied by the no-Even Flow / Jeremy / Alive / Black-rule.

  • rk

ok, all we need is for burnside to come back, somehow blame this on obama, and then we can shut this comment section down.

  • lightonfire

You lost me at “NO Even Flow”

  • hughtensl

Chuck…not so elite, patrons bring in rare/different from the norm live versions of those songs and they get played.

rk…I agree…this thread has been all over the place. I have enjoyed it. Made some new friends, and maybe even enemies. None the less, enjoyed it. See you all at the Irish Pol for Pearl Jam night. If you don’t like Pearl Jam, then I won’t see you. No biggie.

  • lightonfire

I think hugh tried to end this thread… we can’t let that happen!

    64TH FUCKING COMMENT.

  • ride1076

You lost me at claiming you don’t own this place.

  • chuck63

Before this thing ends, please note that Gene Krupa was the greatest drummer to ever live. Either him or Clem Burke. Or maybe Keith Moon.

  • ride1076

Wow, so Pearl Jam really have a Dead/Phish thing going on now, yeah? As in their fans are really into collecting recordings of their live shows, possibly more than the studio albums themselves? That’s what I’m gathering here.

    It’s quiet hour!

pearl jam bootlegs are a big deal in their fan world. i don’t get why…the concert @ the spectrum I went to (the things we do for love…) was pretty damn bad. Not in the i don’t like them so it’s bad, but in the jesus christ, not every song needs a guitar solo that’s basically just Guile’s Sonic Boom from Street Fighter made into a 2 minute riff type of bad.

also, social distortion opened for them and kicked ass. speaking of them, i’d go to a monday night at an irish bar if it was all social D. And only partly because the aged ex-punks who are now completely suburbanized are absolutely mesmerizing to watch.

    69th!

  • ride1076

    Fooled!

  • lightonfire

I’m trying to think of something snarky to say so we can get this up to 100, but I’m at a loss.

  • samiam666

    hmm…

  • Timo

    Clyde Stubblefield!

  • hughtensl

lightonfire…not trying to end the thread, I was just done. Thought, for me, it ran it’s course. Dammit! Just when I think I am out, they pull me back in!

  • lightonfire

THIS MUST GO ON AS LONG AS THERE ARE MONDAYS WITH PEARL JAM!

  • mufffin

why no black? that wasn’t a hit or anything. btw I love both belle and sebastian and pearl jam (well, vs. and vitalogy at least). that should get ya’ll fired up again.

  • samiam666
