Readers Write/Noontime Nuggetz: Let’s Get A Posse Together And Catch The South Philly Plant Thief!

Some asshole has been roaming my block (and I have to imagine others near me) stealing plants from in front of our homes. We’re off 12th between Ellsworth and Federal. He’s taken plants from three different homes on my block so far.

Funny thing is in an effort to ‘cover his tracks’ this dickhead was kind enough to replant another one of our plants into the spot left vacant by the plant he just stole. I guess to make it look less obvious?? what a nice guy. If Karma were to play a role, this d-bag would get a bad case of genital poison ivy…

Care to post this? I’d be curious to see if other South Philly folks have had any plants missing.

it’s obviously a white male with a north face jacket/fleece. this was last week.

GET HIM, PHILEBRITY READERS! CATCH HIM! ATOMIC WEDGIE!

the 1:50 and 3:00 marks are the best views of this guy…GET HIM!

I fell asleep, did something happen?

  • friendlynerd

I bet this is the fucker that took my potato vines! 17th and Federal here…

Last summer, some dick stole our planter that had four foot high plants in it and weighed about 50 pounds, near 8th and Wharton.

The Green Thumb Thief strikes again!

Ugh! I had two plants stolen, entire pots & all, from my front stoop TWICE. Once last summer & again this past Memorial Day weekend, I’m near 9th & Moore. Gotta be the same douche.

What the hell is the point, talk about needing to get a life.

So, it appears my old foe Green Thumb Thief has once again struck fear into the hearts of Philadelphia’s law-abiding gardeners. To the Whimsymobile!

I’ve been skittish about beautifying the block on Passyunk below Wharton (yeah, a block from Geno’s) because last summer some asshole(s) ripped out potato vines from the sidewalk planter, then came back a week later for the geraniums. I’m trying not to let the d-bags get me down.

What time was this? Also, the guy looks Indian to me . . . and not to belittle your plants but the guy breaking into your neighbors car seems a little more serious . . . that or the culprit is your neighbor.

  • thesenator

to Solibs…. It was at 3:45 AM. Also, he was not breaking into that car. he was stealing more plants at the foot of the front door of that house. after viewing the clip a few more times, I can see why you say Indian.

What I wanna know is what the hell does a plant thief do with all those plants? Is there a re-sale market for stolen plants? Psssst…buddy…wanna buy a geranium? Or, has this guy been creating a stunning oasis of greenery in his backyard? Someday I am going to hire a helicopter and fly all over South Philly until I find this backyard jungle… then imma gonna git my planter back from that sonofabitch!

I had a really cheap, but unique plant stolen from my front porch near 6th and Wharton two week ago. I saw it before leaving for work at 9am, and it was gone by 4pm. The thing was pretty big, and my neighbors re home during the day. I’ve got dogs who bark loudly. I’m not sure how no one said anything. I haven’t replanted, and don’t really feel like I want to if it will just be stolen again.

confirmed basil plant stolen from 11th and wharton. But it was also pretty much dead. Maybe this guy is able to plant- whisper leaves back to life?

Someone I know around 11th & Wharton has had plants repeatedly yanked out by a woman. That one (at least!) sounds like a clinical case
