This Weekend: The Unofficial Beginning Of Your 2011 Spring Fever

FRIDAY:
>>> We have amazing news for you: SPRING 2011 OFFICIALLY BEGINS IN JUST NINE DAYS. And with a weather forecast like this for the weekend, it seems safe to declare this weekend the Unofficial Beginning Of Your 2011 Spring Fever. Nice, right? We’re pretty excited, too. One way of expressing your feelings about all of this would be go down to Bouffant Bangout at The Barbary — which has long been one of the few Barbary parties where old heads hucklebuck to old soul sides right there with the kids — and enter their dance contest. “The contest is from 12-12:30 and it’s gonna be old school,” DJ Snakpak told us. “You get a number pinned to your back and if we rip it off… you’re out! The last three dancers face off on the stage and whoever our applausometer favors wins the cash prize.” Think about how tall you’d be walking into this spring if you kicked it all off by winning an OLD SCHOOL DANCE CONTEST. We’re saying go for it.
>>> This will also be pure, unadulterated fun: TV Carnage Live! is visiting International House. For those of you unfamiliar with Pinky Carnage‘s slice-and-dice approach to all that is ridiculous, well, just pay a visit to KLG in the video at right.
>>> Oh, and look, there’s even a Making Time for you to go and do something stupid at.
>>> Also of note: England Belongs To Twee at Kung Fu Necktie, and scroll down for info on the Steve Gunn and Zomes show at the First Unitarian Side Chapel tonight.

SATURDAY:
>>> Want to spend the whole day drunk and on a bus? No need to go Greyhound to some dumb city where they don’t even have racist cheesesteaks or dogfighting football heroes. Just hop on the Craft Beer Express, which will haul your ass to no less than 11 bars, all of which are hosting their own craft beer events. Note: You’ve only got until 10PM to buy tickets online, so get on that, and go directly to bed. You’ve got 10 straight hours of drinking to prep for.
>>> And there’s two record release shows of note: The Bigger Lovers reunite and celebrate the 10th anniversary reissue of their How I Learned To Stop Worrying album with a big ol’ party at Johnny Brenda’s, and Ladies Auxiliary, a Beach House-y group of young bucks, celebrate the release of their latest, My Side Of The Mountain, with an early show at The Barbary. Lots to love about both of these shows.
>>> Elsewhere: As mentioned earlier this week, Broadzilla at KFN; and file under “What We Do Is Secret”: Philadelphia Surf Invitational. Shhh.
>>> AND AT MIDNIGHT, SPRING FORWARD LIKE A BOSS.

SUNDAY:
>>> Every month or two, the Big Horn Jazz Band — which is exactly what it sounds like — pulls up for an early Sunday evening show at Johnny Brenda’s and swings it out. Why haven’t you gone yet?
>>> And finally, The Blasters with Delco Nightingale at in The Balcony at The Trocadero. So get out there. Fall in love. Get freaky. Winter’s over. You earned this.
